Born and raised in London, John Ruskin was educated at home and, despite acquiring no formal qualifications in the process, was accepted at Christ Church College, Oxford. During his long life he wrote prolifically on a variety of subjects including science, geology, ornithology, literary criticism, the environmental effects of pollution, mythology and art history. He was very keen on the work of ‘modern painters’, particularly J.M.W. Turner, whom he met and befriended, eventually becoming excutor of his will. In 1848 he married Effie Gray, for whom he wrote the early fantasy novel ‘The King of the Golden River’ (see below).
This is a special centenary facsimile edition of John Ruskin's fairy tale with Bio-Bibliography Study by James Dearden the Director for Ruskin Affairs.
